2022 call: Industrial safety implications of platform work, the Green Deal, and advanced materials for energy storage

 

SAF€RA is a partnership between 16 research funding organizations from 12 European countries who collaborate on research programming and launch joint calls in the field of industrial safety. It prolongs the work developed in the SAF€RA ERA-NET, which was funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration during the period April 2012 – March 2015. Industrial safety is an enabling success factor in the pursuit of beneficial and sustainable business activities.

On 19th may 2022, SAF€RA launched its seventh joint call concerning Industrial safety implications of platform work, the Green Deal, and advanced materials for energy storage. The pre-proposal deadline is 5 September 2022.

The call covers three topics:

  • Topic 1: Industrial safety in the context of the sustainability imperative
  • Topic 2: Safety of advanced materials in energy conversion and storage applications
  • Topic 3: Evolving workplaces and safety in the platform economy

 

The scope of SAF€RA includes research on the prevention of major accidents, with off-site consequences and risks to the environment and society, and in particular the economic benefits of industrial safety solutions, safe innovative processes, preparedness and response as well as protection of the environment, new methods to enhance the creation of a safety culture and prudent attitudes, risk reduction strategies, reference technologies for life extension of aged and repaired structures, as well as products and systems required to improve industrial safety.

Funding available

The total available budget for the 2022 call is approx. 1.8 M€. Two forms of funding are available:

  • “in cash”: research grants for researchers from universities, institutes, research organizations and public firms;
  • “in kind”: person-months for personnel from certain participating institutes and research organizations.

Most projects funded within this call will include 2 to 4 partners, for a duration between 12 and 36 months and funding between 20 and 150 k€ per project partner. The call aims to fund mainly applied research carried out in universities or research institutes, though contributions from industry are also eligible. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged. Cooperation and joint activities between different consortia funded within the call will be encouraged.
