International Scientific Conference – International Emergency Mechanisms and Disaster Risk Reduction

The main objective of the conference is to exchange good practices and experiences in the scope of international mechanisms for prevention and response on crisis situations and disasters as well as to initiate a discussion on improving disaster risk reduction. 

COVID-19 pandemic, war in Ukraine and hybrid threats indicate a need to strengthen international cooperation to cope with crisis situations and disasters with global reach. Co-existing phenomena and cascading effects influence on particular countries and international organisations (UN, NATO, EU). Thus, close cooperation in disaster risk reduction is so important to be better prepared, to more effectively respond to hazards, to limit relevant consequences more comprehensively and efficiently and to recover societies affected in the direction of ‘build back better’. 

The conference will be a platform of exchange for ideas, research results and solutions which connect theory and practice of disaster risk reduction in the field of emergency mechanisms. An ambition is to develop existing and to initiate new networks comprising decision makers, public administration, public services, armed forces, academia, non-governmental organisations and local disaster risk reduction leaders to be more flexible and prepared for XXI century safety and security challenges.

The event regroups the 8 following topics :

1. UN, NATO and EU mechanisms in disaster risk reduction. Organisational assumptions, good practices, case studies, risk management and perspectives for the future. 
2. Local initiatives for emergency support in disaster risk reduction. From lessons learned to effective disaster risk reduction.
3. Social and economic issues of international emergency mechanisms in disaster risk reduction.
4. International emergency mechanisms in disaster risk reduction in turbulent geopolitical environment of security.
5. Data challenges and solutions for disaster risk management.
6. New challenges for mechanisms in disaster risk reduction, including cascading effect.
7. Science-Policy interface – improving data for disaster risk reduction.
8. Cooperation with NGOs and private-public partnership. 

You can register online for a speech, poster or chapter in monograph until the 15 August 2022 as the Scientific Board will select the most appropriate speeches until the 31 August 2022.
